Craniomaxillofacial Trauma Fellowship for July 2027
The University of Maryland Shock Trauma integrated Maxillofacial Trauma Service (MTS) offers a 12- month fellowship in advanced Craniomaxillofacial and Trauma Surgery (CMF-Trauma). This fellowship will focus on the development of advanced skills in a variety of areas within craniomaxillofacial surgery and trauma management. The fellowship will be broad in scope, emphasizing major surgery and will include both ample clinical experience as well as clinical research.
This 12-month fellowship program is primarily clinical in nature and is based within the multispecialty MTS and will include the opportunity to work with Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery. This fellowship is located at the internationally acclaimed R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Maryland and is affiliated with the University of Maryland Medical Center. The surgeons and residents are from the University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins Hospital. Nearly all surgeries will take place at Shock Trauma.
Clinical activities:
Craniomaxillofacial trauma: Comprehensive craniomaxillofacial trauma management, including primary management and reconstructive revision surgery. The fellow will work collaboratively with other services, including trauma surgery and neurosurgery. The fellow will become facile in the use of intraoperative navigation, patient-specific implant fabrication, and comprehensive soft/hard-tissue management of injuries to the CMF region. There may be opportunities to participate in other craniomaxillofacial surgical procedures, such as orthognathic and microvascular surgery.
Educational activities:
The CMF trauma fellow will be supported to present at meetings. They will also be supported to participate in AO, Stryker, and/or SORG courses as they pertain to trauma. There will be journal club as well as monthly didactics specific to trauma. There are also specialty specific academic grand rounds and activities that the fellow can participate in. There is access to the human fresh tissue laboratory and cadaveric specimens for practical didactic teaching.
The CMF Trauma Fellow will:
- Work interactively with other fellows, residents, APPs, and students in a traditional academic learning environment.
- Undertake and complete clinical research projects related to CMF trauma. Other academic productivity may include presentation at national meetings, book chapters, and continuation of ongoing studies as part of the fellowship.
- Provide second call level call coverage in a rotation with the OMS, ENT, and PRS residents.

- Fluency in the English language.
- US citizenship or US green card. International candidates may be considered depending on current visa status and requirements.
- Completion of a residency in oral-maxillofacial surgery, plastic surgery, or otolaryngology/head and neck surgery in good standing prior to the commencement of the fellowship.
