Eligibility Requirements:

Completion of an accredited Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program, Otolaryngology or equivalent surgical specialty.

Eligibility for either an institutional training license or regular license in medicine in the State of Florida.
The Program Goals/Objectives are as follows:

To provide comprehensive clinical and didactic instruction in head and neck oncologic surgery as well as reconstructive surgery.

To operate as primary or first assist surgeon in microvascular surgical reconstruction procedures, which includes flap harvest, inset and microvascular anastomosis.

To operate as primary or first assist surgeon on the excision of benign/malignant tumors in the head and neck region.

To operate as primary or first assist surgeon on thyroid and parathyroid cases.

To participate in weekly meetings of the Head Neck Tumor Board.

To participate in monthly Thyroid tumor board.
-
To participate in departmental clinical research projects.
Program Description: The fellow will participate in all microvascular surgical cases. On average, there will be four operating days each week. The degree of participation will be commensurate with the fellow’s experience and technical skills. The fellow can expect a surgical volume of over 350 head and neck/maxillofacial procedures annually, consisting of all aspects of maxillofacial and head and neck surgery, including oral cancer, severe facial trauma reconstruction, and microvascular surgery. In addition, Fellow’s experience will include microvascular free flap training in both harvest and micro techniques. It is expected that the fellow will be able to raise flaps and perform the microvascular component by the third month of fellowship. The fellow will be on-call for the cases operated by the fellow as well as head neck microvascular patients. While the fellow is covering call, he/she will be supervised and should report to the faculty.
Fellows attend clinic one-half day per week with the preceptor and will be involved in the pre-operative work-up, and operative and post-operative management of all patients seen on the service. The fellow will attend and present at the weekly multidisciplinary head and neck tumor board conference as well as the monthly Thyroid conference. These conferences familiarize the fellow with both surgical and non-surgical approaches to the management of head and neck cancer.
The fellow will be expected to participate in clinical reviews, clinical trials, and collaboration with basic science researchers.
