PURPOSE OF THE AACMFS MATCH
As interest in subspecialties has increased, so has the applicant pool and the number of fellowship training opportunities. The AACMFS Match serves as a method to facilitate the offering of positions and the acceptance by applicants in a uniform fashion, favoring the preference of the applicant. It provides a defined timeline and centralized system to simplify the process of obtaining a fellowship position. Match results are released one year before the fellowship start date. This allows ample time for successful applicants to complete necessary hospital credentialing and state licensing requirements. Programs and/or applicants that do not match have a full year to make appropriate decisions and arrangements.
WHAT THE AACMFS MATCH IS:
A mechanism to efficiently match applicants with fellowship programs, biased toward the applicant’s preferences. A solemn commitment by both applicants and fellowships to abide by the match results.
WHAT THE AACMFS MATCH IS NOT:
-
It is not an application for a fellowship.
-
It is not a starting point to seek fellowship in Oral/Head and Neck Oncologic Surgery or Pediatric Craniomaxillofacial Surgery (Cleft & Craniofacial Surgery)
-
It is not a validation or accreditation of the programs offering positions. It is the sole responsibility of the applicant to ascertain the quality of the programs they apply to and for programs to ascertain the quality of the applicants they rank.
